The Find Family Registry

S
everal weeks ago I received an e-mail from Becky Hanson, a Vice-President for Services at South Dakota Achieve in Sioux Falls, SD. She wrote the following:

Cindy and Jeff Daly recently presented at the GreenSTAR Symposium in

Sioux Falls, SD.  They are the creators of the documentary 'Where?s

Molly'.  It is the powerful true story about Jeff and his sister Molly.

They were separated for 47 years after Molly was placed in an

institution.  The story of their reunion is one that will inspire anyone

who takes the time to watch it.  You can view the video itself at:

http://wheresmolly.net.

In addition to their personal journey, Cindy and Jeff are dedicated to

helping other families reunite.  They have created an on-line registry

for this purpose.  It is called the Find Family Registry and can be

located on TheArc website: https://www.thearclink.org/findfamily.

They are having difficulty in obtaining information from self advocates

and/or their staff.  They currently have over 700 family members in the

registry looking for their loved ones and only 70 people with

disabilities registered for the same reason.

I have a strong desire to help more people learn about this important resource. I have to believe that if others knew it was available, they would be using it.

Becky's letter motivated me to write the Commentary, "Contemplating the Holidays." But more important, if you know of individuals in your programs who would personally benefit from finding lost families, please visit the Find Family Registry, or contact Cindy Daly (cindy.daly@comcast.net).
